Joan Williams returns from March trip to Chajul... all good news

By whites - Posted on 05 April 2009

Hi All, We had a really great trip to Guatemala. The students/staff at CEMIK were thrilled about all the wonderful supplies CG students sent down, and the money, in combination with the funds from All Saints, has supported yet another year of teacher salary. We had the opportunity to sit in on a lesson about the use of natural plants. It was a highly interactive, very enthusiastic session. I learned a ton about how to use the local plants. Students ranged from 5 to 14 and were all impressively attentive to the activity.

Great to see Spencer yesterday and receive all the wonderful supplies and funds for the students at CEMIK. I know they will be really excited to receive everything. The pencil drive was amazing! Looking forward to sharing updates when I am back! Thanks to all the great middle schoolers and staff at Catlin that are helping to support this partnership! Joan

Joan will be traveling with Stephanie Talbot (niece) to Chajul, bringing 2 lap tops for ACEFOMI and hopefully returning with some letters for the 6th graders at Catlin Gabel School. Congratulations to Mundo Exchange for finally receiving 501C3 status, a full-blown public charity.

While Joan is there, she'll look into possible projects for a student visit.
Ideas include:
•Working with students in tutoring capacities
•Teaching Spanish
