The Great Wall
Though our trip to Chi-Ping highschool, and our homestay with local students was extremely memorable, I don't think I will ever forget my visit to the Great Wall of China today.
Visit a local high school
We went to visit a local high school called Chi Ping High School in Shandong province, which is about 4 hours by train from Beijing. We received an exceedingly welcome from the students, the teachers and the parents there. Please take a look at our group members' journals about this fantastic experience below.
Hello from Morgan and Ko: TGIF!
Hello there,
We just got back from eating dumplings. Most of them had egg. They were pretty yummy. Ko likes fried dumplings best, but these were boiled. Morgan likes both, but not egg so much or meat. We were excited because we got to explore the outside of our hotel, which we hadn't done before today. We traveled the long and winding road, aka 50ish feet (that took us way too long to calculate), that led to the dumpling restaurant, which was right outside our hotel.
Three days in Beijing
Hello,
Hope you have read our students' blog about their first three-day experience in Beijing. Except of our regular language and culture classes, we have visited several amazing spots in Beijing including Lama Tempel, the Temple of Heaven and Quan Ju De restaurant. I want to add some materials to help you know more about the wonderful places we have visited.
Lama Tempel
Beijing China, Day 03
Ni hao! Zhe shi Matthew, or Cui Moqiu for those who can speak Chinese. First off, we went to a university, or daxue for those who can speak Chinese. The university was very beautiful, or piaoliang for those who can speak Chinese. After we went to the university, which even those who don't speak Chinese now know is daxue, we went to our classes as usual. During my class we played a game where we hid a marker, or bi for those who can speak Chinese. It did not go well for Ko, or Gao Kexin for those who can speak Chinese, or me.
The art of bargaining
A couple days ago we went to the lama palace. right outside the temple there were a lot of stores. the moment we walked into the store it was like a flock of vultures descended upon us, and they wont take no for an answer. In order to get away you have to pretend that you didnt hear them and keep walking. A good way to get them to lower the price is to say tai guai le! which means it too expensive and then walk away. They will chase after you and show you the new price. After that you say no how about this price. Its a lot of fun tobargain.
Beijing China, Day 02
你好! How's it going alllll the way down there in Portland????
A BIG hello from Graham and Matthew, who are comfortably in their new room with a computer, 2 floors and 2 TV's. This post is actually written on Wednesday, but is about Tuesday, written perfectly by Graham Marlitt.
Beijing China, Day 01
Hai there,
Jade and Diana reporting!
We've been awake since 3:30 AM so we thought we might do something with our time. So far we have listened to Jay Chou, discovered the sad truth about internet censorship, and taken our first Asian-style showers. Great way to start the day!
Winterim Day 2 & 3
Today was pretty fun, yesterday was also 很好玩。
我們昨天看了一部電影,叫做 “飲食男女”。 我們去湘廚吃午飯。
我們吃了很多美味可口的食物。 Including a dish made with pigs' intestines and "coagulated pigs' blood".
