Beijing China, Day 01
Hai there,
Jade and Diana reporting!
We've been awake since 3:30 AM so we thought we might do something with our time. So far we have listened to Jay Chou, discovered the sad truth about internet censorship, and taken our first Asian-style showers. Great way to start the day!
The collective mental sanity of our group gradually deteriorated over the span of yesterday. By 8:30 PM Sunday, we had all been reduced to wobbly clumps of laughter due to fatigue and general boredom. Basically, we stayed awake for more than twenty-four hours, just to take a spoken test. You can imagine how that went. Many of us were reporting that we were so tired, we could feel the ground beneath us rolling. Graham also managed to hallucinate a cat walking up the aisle on the plane.
The teachers are really nice, they split us into three classes for Chinese and we were going to do homework but we never did, since we were all way too tired. Dinner was pizza, which is super different than American pizza. All the teachers thought we didn't like pizza, but in truth our passive demeanors were the result of not sleeping.
Today our plans are to visit the Lama temple, take Chinese lessons, survive on five hours of sleep, and do martial arts which Diana is super excited for. Breakfast in 30, happy day :]
Stay tuned for more of our adventures in Beijing !!
Sincerely,
Diana and Jade in Rm 1101
