India Update #6
It is hard to believe that the trip is almost over! We leave tomorrow for a LONG day of traveling back to the US.
It has been a very fruitful and wonderful trip!
India update 5.5
Just a quick update to share some exciting news:
The monsoon rains have come and some of us were dancing in the streets :-)
We have also completed our service work at the hospital here in Jhansi completing a mural, painting walls in the nursing school, pruning and inventory work. We even made the local news with our projects -- I would forward it, but alas it is in Hindi :-)
India update #5
Greetings fom Jhanci,
The train ride went well, with less trouble than getting the baggage onto the train than in Delhi - I think they're becoming experts! :-) We also found debarking much easier as Jhanci was a lot less crowded than Agra. We were met at the train station by members of the hospital staff which was a pleasant surprise.
India Update #4
The prayers are starting to work -- we got sprinkles this evening -- so keep coming so that the full monsoon rains may come!
India Update #3
Namaste!
Greetings from Agra. We have finished our time in Delhi and took a wonderful train ride to Agra this morning.
We are all currently enjoying a fabulous hotel with all the ammenties including the much anticipated pool. We're relaxing for awhile this morning and once it cools down in the afternoon, we'll head to one of the seven wonders: the Taj Mahal! Needless to say, everyone is quite excited!
Update #2 from India: 6-23-09
Namaste,
I must start by saying what amazing kids we're traveling with! Not a single complaint yet - not even when we were delayed an hour for a lecture on Sufism followed by 1 hour in a hot, stuffy room with a speaker we couldn't understand. :-( I am also happy to report that not a single case of Delhi-belly (knock wood)!
I also think the kids are starting to get used to the heat (almost 120 F yesterday).
Upate #1 from India: 6-21-09
Namaste!
We have arrived save but tired into Delhi. The heat has definitely been something to get used to, as it was quite warm when we got out of the airport at 9 pm Saturday night. Everyone was excited to arrive though!
Getting through immigration and customs was fairly smooth with only a questionnaire about health (of which I think we all lied as there was a question if we had recently had face-to-face contact with anyone with flu-like symptoms and everyone wrote no....).
Sensing India
Hello,
As a chaperone with this trip I'm eager to be alongside curious, adventurous students as they explore and widen their worlds. My grandfather was born in outside of New Delhi so I look forward to experiencing his place of birth, especially the sounds, smells, tastes and feel of India, which I can't fully get in pictures or books!
Thank you for being open to meeting with us, I'm excited to get to know you.
Warm regards,
Mariam
India!
Hi, my name is Charlie and i am a junior at Catlin Gabel. I am very excited for this trip because i love new experiences. Traveling is something i love to do and i am very excited about seeing a new culture. I am very interested in the religion studies we will be doing there, because i don't know very much right now. I am ready to enjoy some great food as well.
Really Excited for India
Hi, my name is Jeremy and I’m a freshman here at Catlin Gabel. I’m a quiet person who doesn't usually say much but I love to see new places and people. I was ecstatic when I was accepted on the trip to India because it is so diverse and unique. The food is amazing, there are so many different religions, and the culture is extremely different from our culture here in the United States. I can't wait to meet you all!
