Español VH: The Hispanic Presence in Oregon

Goal:
To work in collaboration with Miracle Theater/Teatro Milagro to create a multimedia presentation to present at Miracle Theater’s fall production of Canta y no llores. Because there is so little information about the Hispanic presence in Oregon during the Great Depression, we hope to uncover new information about previously undocumented history.
The Process:
For the project, we found Hispanics who were either living in Oregon during the Great Depression, had relatives living in Oregon during the Great Depression, or live here today and interviewed them about their immigration to and life in Oregon. We also asked every interviewee if they celebrate the Day of the Dead.
Accomplishments:
We researched Hispanics in Oregon during the Great Depression.
We contacted Hispanics in the area and interview them.
We created a pamphlet, video, and website to display our discoveries.
Outcome:
Although we encountered few Hispanics who were living in Oregon during the Great Depression, we discovered many new and interesting things about recent Latino immigrants and their lives in Oregon.
