Catlin Gabel emphasizes the value of experiential education. Upper School Winterim and Middle School Breakaway are our most visible examples of experiential education in action.

PLACE (Planning and Leadership Across City Environments) is the Upper School's four-week summer program resulting from CG’s Vision 2020 strategic planning work in 2006. PLACE aims to empower students to be civically engaged in Portland metro area governments and organizations.

The robotics program gives students a window into the world of engineering. It’s run like a small business, with students managing all aspects of the enterprise including management and leadership. Students involved with robotics engage with the community in a meaningful way by helping to host outreach events.
